Identical The Musical description
Identical Musical – It's Twinsational!
We have a treat in store for you in 2021! This is a wonderful new musical inspired by the brilliant novel by Erich Kastner, The Parent Trap. It was made into a smash hit 1961 movie and the story was also told again on the silver screen in 1986 and 1998, a plot so charming and popular it never dies. Welcome to a deliciously fun story about a pair of twins who are determined to bring their separated parents back together.
Do you love a happy ending? If so you'll adore this fun musical, based on the brilliant novel by Erich Kastner. The story is so good it has been made into a movie three times, once in 1961, starring Hayley Mills, again in 1986, and finally in 1998. This is the kind of show that'll see you leaving the theatre with a big, happy smile on your face, knowing everything has been put right in the characters' world. Nice!
What's the plot?
Meet quirky identical twins Annie and Hallie. They were separated at birth, one parent each taking a child to bring up on their own. When, ten years later, the two girls accidentally meet at a Summer Camp and discover their parents' dark secret, they are both determined to bring their mum and dad back together again. They do so by swapping places and living each others' lives. Will they succeed?
The creative team
Who's on the creative team? The book comes from Stuart Patterson. The music comes from George Stiles, the lyrics come from Anthony Drewe, and the fun is directed by the brilliant Sir Trevor Nunn. He's special, an Olivier and Tony award-winning star director responsible for some of the world's greatest theatrical hits, including Les Miserables, Starlight Express, Cats and Sunset Boulevard.
George Stiles and Anthony Drewe have created musical scores for the Olivier winning Honk! and the Cameron Mackintosh/Disney production of Mary Poppins. Stuart Paterson's dazzling stage adaptations include The Jungle Book and Kenzuke’s Kingdom. What a fabulous team.
An impressive history
The 1961 Parent Trap movie was directed by David Swift and starred Hayley Mills, who played both twins. It also featured Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith. Parent Trap 3, in 1989, was directed by Mollie Miller and starred Hayley Mills, Barry Bostwick, Ray Baker, and Patricia Richardson. The 1998 movie was directed by Nancy Meyers and starred Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, and Elaine Hendrix. This magical stage musical promises to beat them all with its all-singing, all-dancing stage appeal.
