Just For One Day in London
Just For One Day – The Live Aid Story
The Band Aid Charitable Trust and the Old Vic are delighted to confirm the world premiere of Just For One Day. This is a brand new musical written by the best-selling author John O’Farrell (Mrs Doubtfire, Something Rotten). Directed by Luke Sheppard (&Juliet, The Little Big Things), Just For One Day is on the stage for a limited run between 26th January to 30th March 2024.
Just For One Day tickets – Unique memories
Roll back time to 1984 when Bob Geldof and his crew smashed it with a huge charity concert that changed the world forever. Set against a background of political upheaval, social revolution, cultural rebellion and boom-and-bust economics, one and a half billion people were brought together by music in an effort to save lives in Ethiopia. On that day music changed the world, and almost forty years later the Band Aid Charitable Trust is still going strong.
All about Just For One Day – Fabulous music
The musical features the brilliant music of Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, The Police, Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, Diana Ross, Ultravox and many more bands and musicians, all of whom gave their time and talent freely to a vital cause.
As Matthew Warchus, the Artistic Director of The Old Vic, says: “I had the pleasure of working with Luke Sheppard on Matilda The Musical and I have always admired the witty brilliance of John O’Farrell’s writing – I am thrilled to have these two great forces uniting on The Old Vic stage alongside an excellently talented company. For those of us who were around in the ‘80s, Saturday 13 July 1985 I’m sure will be one of those days that is forever etched in our memories. We all remember where we watched Live Aid, who we watched it with, and the pure amazement at the feat that was unfolding before our eyes. It’s these memories and individual stories that are the beating heart of Just For One Day, and I can’t wait for audiences to share in a moment that galvanised the globe once again.”
Bob Geldof himself commented on the news, saying in typical bold style: “From seeing Just For One Day throughout its development, if this musical encourages just one person to have a positive impact for the better, then it will be a job well done. I'm looking forward to seeing it at The Old Vic... it better not be shit!”

I actually saw JFOD twice and on both occasions I came with several friends. I wish it wasn’t ending as I would LOVE to see it again! All my friends loved it too. We were literally on the edge of our seats and throughout constantly glancing at each other with joy of the performances, memories, music. I honestly have not LOVED anything as much in years.. I’m a huge musical fan and plays too. I’ve seen many of my favourites numerous times whenever opportunity JC Superstar, Les Mis… I sooooo wish that JFOD could remain / come back… With the 40th anniversary coming up do you think this might happen? Please do let me know.. Melissa mel@mmjlondon.com

Absolutely brilliant show. Didn't know what to expect, but the imaginative use of the songs was fabulous and the quality of the vocals and harmonies was superb. Great humour, great story of the Band Aid and the Live Aid story. Fantastic night out!!!!

I remember everything about Live Aid and this just brought everything home plus it reminded me that a lot of work (and lies) went into making this a spectacular event. Also it highlighted all the issues to ensure that the aid reached the staving millions. It is a very moving production but f****** brilliant also.

For anyone who actually saw Live Aid this is such a wonderful story to know how it all came about! The band was amazing and every actors voice was out of this world. Brought back many memories on how wonderful the songs and bands were in that era! Thank you for a most wonderful afternoon . Hope this show goes on tour around England for more people to dnjoy

Will forgive the fairy tail plot and the political content put in to appease the “white savior” idiots. The music is what its about and its FAB.

Loved the music! Great voices. Most important the message - we still have to tackle the world’s problems. I was a bit emotional with the message the show gives.

Recreates the day perfectly, full of pathos, laughter and sheer joy .If you were around then and even if you weren't you get a feeling of what it was all about but sadly how little has changed. One man ,because of his wife initially, found the will, all be it innocently, to try to make a difference , and he did for a short while......

Generally the show was good, storyline, way to much swearing unnecessary and was maybe a bit too long, amateur singers who didn't hit the note with some of the powerful songs and not much interactive with the crowd could of been better
