Just For One Day in London
Inspired by one of the greatest music events in history, Just For One Day heads to the West End in 2025 at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The televised concerts attracted a record-breaking audience of 1.5 billion people. Just For One Day tells the story of this incredible event, an amazing new musical about Live Aid and the people who were brought together by it.
Just For One Day - The Story
Now and again people come together and something remarkable happens. It happened in 1985 as famine raged in Ethopia against a backdrop of political unrest, social revolution, and economic boom and bust. 70 artists and two huge gigs later, $127 million had been raised to help. It was amazing.
When Live Aid hit Wembley and Philadelphia, changed the face of fundraising forever. Now the event is being celebrated in the West End, inspired by the concerts organised by Bob Geldof of the Boomtown rats and Midge Ure from Ultravox.
About Just For One Day
The production heads to the West End in Spring 2025 following its record-breaking premiere at The Old Vic in 2024 - Just For One Day became the theatre's fastest-selling musical ever and hundreds of people flocked to the theatre to see it. The West End transfer comes hot on the heels of a North American premiere at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto.
Fresh from the director of & Juliet and writer of Mrs Doubtfire, the show is stacked with smash hits from legendary musicians of the times, including Bowie, Queen, Elton John, The Who, U2, Diana Ross, The Police, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, Ultravox and more.
Just For One Day cast and creative team
The show stars Craige Els (Doctor Who, Matilda The Musical) as Bob Geldof, the show is directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, The Little Big Things), and the book is by John O’Farrell (Mrs Doubtfire), in collaboration with Sir Bob Geldof himself.
There’s a talented creative team on the show, with Matthew Brind responsible for the musical supervision, arrangements and orchestration and Ebony Molina for the choreography. Soutra Gilmour is the set designer and Fay Fullerton is the costume designer. Howard Hudson is the lighting designer, Gareth Owen the sound designer, Andrzej Goulding has created the video and animation and Stuart Burt is responsible for the casting.
This is what happens when rock stars and ordinary people combine their efforts to create ‘amazing’. Don’t miss this exhilarating story of the concerts that took place almost 40 years ago but still have the power to thrill.

Best I’ve seen in years…I actually saw JFOD twice and on both occasions I came with several friends. I wish it wasn’t ending as I would LOVE to see it again! All my friends loved it too. We were literally on the edge of our seats and throughout constantly glancing at each other with joy of the performances, memories, music. I honestly have not LOVED anything as much in years.. I’m a huge musical fan and plays too. I’ve seen many of my favourites numerous times whenever opportunity JC Superstar, Les Mis… I sooooo wish that JFOD could remain / come back… With the 40th anniversary coming up do you think this might happen? Please do let me know.. Melissa mel@mmjlondon.com

A must see show.I remember everything about Live Aid and this just brought everything home plus it reminded me that a lot of work (and lies) went into making this a spectacular event. Also it highlighted all the issues to ensure that the aid reached the staving millions. It is a very moving production but f****** brilliant also.

Genuinely a must see, the best new musical in years .Recreates the day perfectly, full of pathos, laughter and sheer joy .If you were around then and even if you weren't you get a feeling of what it was all about but sadly how little has changed. One man ,because of his wife initially, found the will, all be it innocently, to try to make a difference , and he did for a short while......

Brings back memoriesGenerally the show was good, storyline, way to much swearing unnecessary and was maybe a bit too long, amateur singers who didn't hit the note with some of the powerful songs and not much interactive with the crowd could of been better
