It's 2077 and Earth is breaking. As humanity buckles under economic precariousness and the consequences of climate change, part of the population lives in exile on Mars. Across millions of miles, a father still on Earth struggles to maintain his relationship with his daughter, who is building a new life on Mars. Across two worlds, father and daughter attempt to build a dialogue through a series of very, very, very long-distance calls. La Distance is an intimate, inventive play by Tiago Rodrigues (By Heart, Catarina, Beauty of Killing Fascists), Portuguese playwright and director, and current director of the Festival d'Avignon, where La Distance was first performed. The UK premiere of this powerful play will be performed in French, with English surtitles. It is a profound exploration of separation, hope, and the bond between parent and child, set within a collapsing world. Through this unique dystopian premise, Rodrigues explores the consequences of our choices as much as the possibility of communication between generations. Original cast members Alison Dechamps and Adama Diop reprise their roles as father and daughter.
