Mrs President in London

Witness the untold story of Mary Todd Lincoln, widow to the late President Abraham Lincoln. Overcome by grief in the aftermath of her husband's assassination, she seeks to step out from under his long shadow and escape a world eager to define her on its own terms. Accused of treason and shunned by society, she turns to Mathew Brady, the world's first celebrity photographer, to help her reclaim her story and rebuild her public image. But everything unravels with a power shift that turns their collaboration into a fierce struggle for authorship, truth, and control.

Acclaimed artist, playwright, and historian John Ransom Phillips brings to life the legacy of the most misunderstood First Lady in this powerful exploration of identity, female agency, and the biases of history. Following its original staging in 2025, Mrs President returns to the stage with a boldly reimagined, reinvented version, the result of deep dramaturgical development and creative workshops, which reveals deeper, richer layers to this fascinating story. Bronagh Lagan (Cruise, Broken Wings) directions this revised adaptation, with Broadway musical theatre star Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman, Waitress, Les Miserables) starring as Mary Lincoln and Hal Fowler (Les Miserables, Aspects of Love, Flowers for Mrs Harris) as Matthew Brady.

Don't miss the return of this powerful, clever historical play that unpacks the true story behind a woman overlooked by history.

Don’t bother

Terrible show. Poorly written. The male actor is either terrible or he was the victim of bad direction. Sorry I wasted my time and money on this show.

Would have been good if it was on

This show was recommended and we were really looking forward to it. All organised and then at the last minute - had notice that the show was cancelled due to illness. Seriously? Understudies?

Keep the attention, but bit confusing

I simply think that too many issues are addressed, to such an extent that nothing is clear at the end. That being said, Mrs President kept my attention and I keep on hoping for more….clarity!
