Menier Chocolate Factory announces full cast for revival of PACIFIC OVERTURES

Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's musical will open for a limited season at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 25 November.

The full casting has been announced for the revival of PACIFIC OVERTURES. The production will play at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 25 November 2023- 24 February 2024.

The revival will be directed by Matthew White. The cast includes Jon Chew (The Good Person of Szechwan) as Reciter, Kanako Nakano (My Neighbour Totoro) as Tamate, Saori Oda (The Phantom of the Opera) as Shogun/Madam, Takuro Ohno (UK Stage Debut) as Kayama, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes (Death Note) as Manjiro.
Completing the cast are Luoran Ding, Masashi Fujimoto, Rachel Hayne Picar, Eu Jin Hwang, Abel Law, Ethan Le Phong, JoJo Meredith, Patrick Munday, Sario Solomon, Joy Tan, Lee V G, and Iverson Yabut.
The production features set design by Paul Farnsworth, costumes by Ayako Maeda, sound by Gregory Clarke, choreography by Ashley Nottingham, musical supervision by Catherine Jayes, musical direction by Paul Bogaev, and orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick.
What is PACIFIC OVERTURES about?
PACIFIC OVERTURES is regarded as one of Stephen Sondheim's most ambitious creations, opening on Broadway back in 1976.
The story is set in 19th-century Japan and tells the story of the country's westernization which began in 1853. Told from the perspective of the Japanese, we experience how the change impacts the lives of two friends PACIFIC OVERTURES features an unforgettable score, including 'Someone in a Tree' and 'A Bowler Hat'.
