Giles Terera to play Scrooge in Old Vic's A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Directed by Matthew Warchus and adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne, A Christmas Carol returns to the Old Vic for its 10th consecutive year, adding two additional performances on 10 and 11 November after last year’s sell-out run.

Terera, who recently played Abraham Lincoln in the Olivier Award-winning comedy Oh, Mary!, is returning to the Old Vic following his performance as Dale Harding in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest earlier this year. He expressed his excitement about his casting, praising "Jack Thorne's brilliant script" and "Matthew Warchus's beautiful production", and ended by saying, "To play this unforgettable character, in the round, in Matthew’s final year as artistic director, is a real honour."

Based on the timeless novel by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol follows the crotchety, miserly moneylender Ebenezer Scrooge, one of Dickens' most memorable characters, who is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve, who take him on a terrifying journey through his past, present, and future in order to teach him the meaning of Christmas. 

This smash-hit adaptation of the beloved story has become the longest-running annual staging of A Christmas Carol. Notably, Warchus will be stepping down as artistic director of the Old Vic at the end of this year, after having held the post since 2015.

A Christmas Carol runs at the Old Vic from 10 November 2026 to 9 January 2027.
