Oh, Mary! in London
Starring:
Mason Alexander Park
Don't miss the highly anticipated London transfer of Cole Escola's outrageous historical comedy about Mary Todd Lincoln in the days leading up to her husband's assassination. This one-act play is gleefully anachronistic and darkly absurdist, and has been a resounding success on Broadway with its fresh, irreverent take on a key period in American history.
Why you should see Oh Mary!
- Oh Mary! charmed and delighted Broadway audiences with its dark humour and cheeky take on historical figures. It's been praised as ‘a work of deranged beauty' (New York Magazine) and ‘the funniest play in years' (Time Out New York).
- We love a comedy that pokes fun at serious historical events and famous historical figures. Oh Mary! is sure to delight fans of historical comedies like Operation Mincemeat and The Bastard, Puccini!
- Cole Escola has been a long-time cult fixture of New York's alt-comedy scene, and we're excited to see how their off-beat, irreverent style of comedy translates to the London stage.
What is Oh Mary! about?
This off-beat, outrageous dark comedy reimagines the story of Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of her husband - formerly US president Abraham Lincoln. In this tongue-in-cheek take on history, Mary is a foul-tempered alcoholic, stuck in an unhappy marriage with the deeply closeted Abe, desperate to relive her glory days as a cabaret dancer. This one-act, 80-minute play is packed with hilarious gags, alcohol-fuelled antics, and general mayhem as it takes an absurdist spin on an American First Lady as you've never imagined her before.
Oh Mary! enjoyed a wildly successful run on Broadway, picking up multiple awards and massive critical acclaim. It's the brainchild of American comedian, actor, and playwright Cole Escola, a longtime darling of New York's comedy scene. Audiences and critics alike fell in love with Escola's portrayal of the hilarious and feisty Mary in this delightfully camp and unapologetically anachronistic historical comedy. Now you too can enjoy this dark, bold, and deranged show right here in the West End. Prepare for a fast-paced romp through American history where nothing is as you'd expect and the jokes are rapid-fire as they are outrageous.
If you like your American history with a side of satire, book now and join Mary on a wild ride through history.

See it while Mason Alexander Park is still playing MaryThe show is hilarious and irreverent. And - with all due respect to Cole Escola - no one is a better Mary than Mason Alexander Park. That b***h is turned up to 11. Their performance could only be better if those other actors would just get out of the way! A magnificent f***ing c**t!

If you like a farce it’s farcical. A packed theatre and half a dozen people laughed like it was the funniest thing they had ever seen. The rest of us waited 35 mins for a funny gag. The last 20 mins was very good musically and plot wise but the first hour was poor. Not funny but it thought it was.

Wacky, fun and funnyI am an American and a true fan of Abraham Lincoln. I had no idea what the show was about, and after the first few moments of shock, I settled in and realized that this was one of the funniest, wackiest show's I've seen. I would see it again!!!!

Weird and wonderful - excellent actingThis was a weird surreal and highly entertaining show….. with lots of farcical elements. Not quite sure how I would explain the story other than to say the writer has a wild imagination. All actors were great but the lead was amazing - hysterical.

The real story of Abe&CoDon’t ask anyone who’s seen the show what it’s all about. From the start, surprises, outrageous skits and breathtaking athleticism are blended - and only those of Trumpian demeanour might keep a straight face. Rollicking good fun, sharp lines and momentum till the final curtain.

Worst show I have ever seen.It relies on worn out stereotypes of women, mental illness, and LGBQ+ people. It ridicules them. Setting it in the White House and using Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln as characters, is a cheap trick and offense. The disclaimers do not mitigate the offense.

FunnyFunny show, very camp and quite rude. Not the sort of show i normally book but was recommended. I like music and singing so I loved the cabaret ending! Glad I went and would recommend.
