There are growing speculations that the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, West Side Story, may be getting a revival in London.

Conceived by Jerome Robbins and inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is set in a multiracial blue-collar neighbourhood in Manhattan's Upper West Side in the 1950s. Set against the bloody rivalry between two street gangs, the Puerto Rican Sharks and the white Jets, it follows the love story between Tony and Maria, who hail from different sides of the gang war.

Featuring a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story first premiered on Broadway in 1957 and has inspired multiple adaptations, revivals, and international productions. With a powerful, heartbreaking score featuring beloved songs such as 'Maria', 'Tonight', and 'America'. It's widely considered one of the best and most enduring musicals of all time.

While no details have been officially confirmed, there's a rumour that West Side Story may be returning to the UK in 2027, with a new production by an award-winning director due to open, possibly at the National Theatre. If this proves to be true, it would be the first major London revival of this classic musical since 1998.
