Matt Smith will star in a brand new English-language production of Thomas Ostermeier's seminal reimaging of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People.

Originally staged at the Schaubühne in Berlin, the production will open at the Duke of York's Theatre on 6 February and run through to 6 April.

What is AN ENEMY OF PEOPLE about?

Thomas Ostermeier created an interactive take on the 1882 piece in Germany back in 2012 before it ran at the Barbican in London in 2014 in German.

AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE tells the story of an idealistic doctor, Stockmann, who discovers that the spring showers that his small town relies on for their wealth are contaminated with a deadly disease. Up against the people, who chose to silence his thoughts and ignore him, Dr Stockmann refuses to be ignored and allows his voice to go silent.

It's an important play in the ongoing pressures of climate change and global warming and how we have an incapacity to change the threats around us.
