Smash-hit new play McQueen that premiered at the St James Theatre in May 2015 has announced its transfer to the West End in August.
Based around the life of legendary fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen, the play is written by James Phillips and stars the multi award-winning Tracy-Ann Oberman as the designers long-standing muse Isabella Blow, and Stephen Wight as Lee Alexander McQueen.
Directed by John Caird, McQueen opened to rave reviews from both audience and critics at the St James Theatre in May this year, now the production has had several re-writes and added an interval for the West End run.
McQueen’s nephew Gary and sister Janet said on the announcement of the transfer that ‘It was as though the play and Stephen's performance brought Lee back to us again. I felt as though he was real again. It does really hit something in your heart’.
Joining Tracy-Ann Oberman and Stephen Wight will be Laura Reese as Arabella, Carly Bawden as Dahlia and Michael Bertenshaw as Mr Hitchcock. Further casting is yet to be announced.
McQueen follows the life story of this visionary fashion designer and explores his beautifully dark imagination that made him one of the world’s greatest contemporary artists.
McQueen opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 27 August 2015 and is currently booking through to 7 November 2015.
