The musical, penned by the award-winning writing duo Kit Buchan and Jim Barne (Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York)), will be presented for four performances in July.

Set in the music industry, Mona Loser is a modern musical inspired by Mary Shelley's famous novel, Frankenstein and the modern monsters that are created both on and offline. It's a show about viral fame, fakery, and identity.
Directed by Tim Jackson, these workshop performances mark the beginning of the creation and development process which is supported by Birmingham Hippodrome's New Musical Theatre Department, a department dedicated to championing original British musical theatre. It's a great opportunity to have a first glimpse at new work-in-development.
Melanie-Joyce Bermudez (King Lear, Wyndham's Theatre) will star as Mona. Further cast for the run is to be announced.
Writers Kit Buchan and Jim Barne said: “We’re delighted to be premiering Mona Loser in this special workshop production. It’s a show about the pop industry, personas, and the stories we spin - and we can’t wait to see how it connects with a live audience.”
Mona Loser will perform at the Southwark Playhouse Borough from 16-19 July 2025.
