Max Webster’s dazzling adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s comedy sold out its run at the National Theatre and now it opens in the West End in September. Starring an electric cast including Olly Alexander and Stephen Fry, The Importance of Being Earnest is a timeless story of false identities and double lives.

The Weir, Harold Pinter Theatre

If you’re looking for an atmospheric play look no further than The Weir. Brought to stage by Conor McPherson, known for his work on Girl from the North Country as well as the upcoming London debut of The Hunger Games on Stage, this production about a group of storytellers in a pub in rural Ireland stars Brendan Gleeson.

The Lady from the Sea, Bridge Theatre

The Lady from the Sea is a complex, haunting story about how making one decision can lead our lives down very different paths. Starring Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln, this new play inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s play heads to the Bridge Theatre for a strictly limited run.

Mary Page Marlowe, Old Vic Theatre

Depicting the life of an extraordinary woman through 90 minutes is Mary Page Marlowe. Written by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tracy Letts, this play will explore five different versions of Mary across eleven scenes. A stellar cast is included including Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon and Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough.

For Shakespeare fans, there’s an exciting production of Hamlet to get your teeth sunk into at the National Theatre in September. Expect a fearless and darkly funny take on the timeless tale of revenge, directed by Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge).

Joe Orton’s darkly comedic cult classic heads to the Young Vic this Autumn in an exciting revival by Nadia Fall. Jordan Stephens will make his stage debut as the manipulative and sexually ambiguous Mr. Sloane as he worms his way into the lives of a middle-aged brother and sister, Kath and Ed.

Indu Rubasingham’s tenure as Director of the National Theatre begins with a striking modern retelling of this ancient Greek story. Infused with anarchic energy and fuelled by spoken word and rhyme, Bacchae will star Heartstopper’s Nima Taleghani.
