The critically acclaimed production of The Father that had audiences on their feet at the Theatre Royal Bath and Tricycle Theatre will transfer to the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre in September.
The multi award-winning black comedy stars Kenneth Cranham and Claire Skinner as a father and daughter who navigate the difficult and often hilarious territory of memory loss.
Directed by James Macdonald, The Father is written by Florian Zeller and won the 2014 Moliere Award for Best New Play. Christopher Hampton, the Oscar winning writer responsible for the adaptations of Dangerous Liaisons and Atonement, translates this English version. His other translation work incudes work by Chekov, Yasmina Reza, Ibsen and Moliere.
James Macdonald was Associate Director of the Royal Court Theatre for 14 years and has worked prolifically in the West End and on Broadway with award-winning productions such as Glengarry Glen Ross and Love and Information.
Tony Award nominee Kenneth Cranham has stared in numerous landmark productions including An Inspector Calls on Broadway, The Cherry Orchard at the National Theatre and Entertaining Mr Sloane, Loot, Gaslight and The Birthday Party in the West End.
Claire Skinner was nominated for an Oliver Award for her role in The Glass Menagerie at the Donmar Warehouse. She has stared in numerous productions at the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and in the West End.
The Father opens at the Wyndham’s Theatre from 30 September 2015 and runs through to 21 November 2015.
