Operation Mincemeat in London

This is the true story of how a secret mission helped the Allies win World War II - using a dead body. In this high octane, unbelievably funny and eccentric musical comedy, a team of British intelligence officers disguised a corpse as a Royal Marine, filling his pockets with fake letters and invasion plans, and dumped him off the coast of Spain to fool Hitler and disguise the Allied invasion of Sicily. What emerges is a hilarious, vaudevillian satire brought to life by a cast of just five actors juggling multiple roles.

Written and composed by David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoë Roberts of the comedy troupe SpitLip, Operation Mincemeat has been described as Singin’ in the Rain meets Strangers on a Train. After hugely successful runs across the UK, it’s now transferring to the West End with a sparkling, hugely talented cast including Charlotte Fleming, Colm Gleeson, Ahmed Hamad, Chloe Hart, and Madeleine Jackson-Smith, and direction by Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge). Get ready for a zany, chaotic musical that takes a truly bizarre piece of history and makes it even funnier, with fast-paced comedy, rapid-fire songs, and plenty of twists.

If you missed it the first time, don’t lose your chance to experience this dizzyingly funny and thrilling musical comedy.

The Guardian

Stiff upper lips abound in this stranger-than-fiction tale of second world war espionage, with Firth and Matthew Macfadyen in charge.

WhatsOnStage

Operation Mincemeat would sink without its near-incessant humour – every line and tune is mined for its comedic potential (one of the early numbers about dead shrews is especially chortle-some). It would be easy for the show's whimsy to run away from itself, but the cast of five inject enough warmth and authenticity into the veritable trove of different characters to keep the piece grounded.

The Independent

A glittering Second World War musical that is funnier than Hamilton… totally brilliant… It has all the subtlety of an M4 Sherman tank crashing its way from one sketch to the next – and is all the better for it…the musical talent on display is exceptional.

What a fantastic show!

Absolutely brilliant. I don’t think I’ve seen a better play for the enthusiasm if the players. They never took a breath. It was a brave move to make a musical out of this story, but they pulled it off with a bang. Well

The most wonderful thing happened during the interval. One of the actors’ mother and grandmother came and sat next to me in the stalls, and while I had already been enjoying the show, this made it so special and I left ecstatic. A fabulous ensemble performance but their daughter/granddaughter stole the show for me - no names, in the spirit of operation hush-hush.

Historical theatre that really pulls you into the story!

Absolutely fantastic venue, acting, and storytellling of a historical event Sets and costumes were amazing Phenomenal actors- they play many different roles throughout the show, but could easily tell when they switched characters! This show had me laughing, crying, and rooting for characters outcomes!

Best musical numbers since ‘Springtime for Hitler and Germany’. Brilliant. Must see!

Loved every aspect although I thought the sound volume too loud for a theatre thus size.

Sound/audio control was very good

The technician on the audio control did a great job of adjusting and balancing the sound, this greatly enhanced the overall experience, especially when compare to those theatres that blast the audio at full volume.
