Onegin in London
John Cranko's lavish ballet adaptation of Alexander Pushkin's verse novel Eugene Onegin is set to Tchaikovsky's soaring music. In 2025, Onegin will make its stage debut at the Royal Opera House, where it will explore unrequited love, rash decisions, and bitter regrets.
The story revolves around the aristocratic and aloof Onegin, who regrets the love of the young and passionate Tatiana. Years later, after a life of indifference and missed opportunities, Onegin realises he loves Tatiana, who is now married to another man. Despite his desperate plea, she refuses him, leaving Onegin to face the consequences of his choices. Onegin will lead viewers through a moving examination of love, grief, and the consequences of individual choices.
