About Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Priscilla Queen of the Desert description
What occurs when two drag queens and a transgender woman take to the road and travel the Australian Outback, making friends and influencing people as they go? Wonderful things, which is why this show will warm your heart as well as delight your senses. It's colourful, funny, bold and touching, and it's on tour from 25th October 2021 onwards, ultimately landing with a flourish in the West End.
What's the plot of Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical?
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a jukebox musical stacked with some of the world's best-loved disco anthems. The book is by the film director and writer Stephan Elliott along with Alan Scott, and the plot is cleverly structured around the music.
The story has been adapted from Elliott's smash hit film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which weaves the tale of the characters as they make their way to a remote resort in Alice Springs to perform a drag show.
What happens when the Outback and the friends collide? As they travel from Sydney in their pale purple bus called Priscilla, they come across a collection of bizarre folk, encounter plenty of homophobia, and find that their horizons and comfort zones become an awful lot wider.
The success of the show in Australasia led to a two-year West End production as well as the Broadway version produced by Bette Midler herself in 2011. The original production won one of seven Helpmann Award nominations, was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best New Musical and two Tonys, and won Tonys for costume design. Now it's back, tipped to be better than ever.
The show is produced by Jason Donovan. Helen Siveter is the Resident Director and Sabrina Cuniberto the Costume Supervisor. Diana Estrada is the Wigs Supervisor and the Casting Director is Will Burton For David Grindrod Associates. Richard Atkinson is the Musical Director and Ian Talbot the Director. Tom Jackson-Greaves Choreographs and Stephen 'Spud' Murphy is the Musical Supervisor for the Original Score. Ben Cracknell does Lighting Design, Ben Harrison the Sound Design, and Phil R Daniels & Charles Cusick Smith are responsible for the Design.
