Samira in London
Now booking! Tickets for Samira are on sale and the show opens at the Dorfman - National Theatre on Thursday, 4 February 2027. Book early for the best choice of seats for the opening weeks.
Inspired by true events and set in Syria during the Arab Spring in 2011, Samira follows a wave of protests breaking out across Damascus. Documenting them is a blogger named Samira: charismatic, radical, and fiercely funny as she shares an unfiltered account of the revolution. A Middle Eastern Studies department in London follows her coverage, but the academics are thrown into crisis when Samira suddenly vanishes without a trace, and it emerges that she wasn't exactly what she seemed.
British-Lebanese writer Carmen Nasr (Under the Shadow) makes her National Theatre debut with this searing and political new play, which is a harrowing and powerfully honest take on the Arab Spring. Directed by Emily Burns, it stars May Calamawy (Ramy) in the titular role. Originally commissioned by the Kiln Theatre, the play explores authenticity, political upheaval and identity, deeply relevant to our modern crisis of misinformation and propaganda.
Don't miss this thrilling new original play based on shocking real-life events.
