From Oladipo Agboluaje comes a new political family drama that traces a rich but fractured Lagos family across one of the most unsettled stretches of Nigeria's recent past. The play draws on Agboluaje's 1997 work Iya-Ile – The First Wife, expanding the original story into an epic family drama. Set in Lagos, it explores the post-colonial aftershocks echoing throughout Nigeria, how they reshaped the country's complex social hierarchies, and the corruption, insecurities, and power struggles that emerged.

If you enjoyed Iya-Ile – The First Wife, this is your chance to revisit some of Agboluaje's fascinating characters like the ferocious but comical Chief Adeyemi and the cheeky and ambitious servant Helen. It's a brutal black comedy that unpacks the cycles of violence and betrayal with Agboluaje's signature sharp wit and flair, offering a fascinating insight into a pivotal point in Nigerian history. Lucian Msamati (Amadeus) makes his National Theatre directing debut, with three-time Emmy winning actor Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) also making her National Theatre debut in the role of Helen.

Don't miss this gripping, powerful family drama that joins the line-up for the National Theatre's 2027 season.
