The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind in London

This brand new musical is based on the true story of William Kamkwamba, a Malawian engineer and inventor who used scrap parts to build a wind turbine to power his family's electricity. When a drought plagues his village and his family's farm, young William is determined to build a windmill, but nobody, not even his friends and family, believe he can. So with some library books, scraps of old machinery, and his own brilliant mind, William sets out to prove them all wrong and bring hope to the village. Bold, uplifting, and inspiring, this new musical tells a powerful story about a boy who defies expectations to bring power and hope for tomorrow to his people.

Kamkwamba's incredible and empowering story inspired a 2019 film based on his own memoir and written and directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who returns now as Creative Associate for the musical. After having its premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford Upon Avon, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind will transfer to Soho Place Theatre for a twelve week season. Directed by Lynette Linton (Alterations, Shifters, Barcelona), former Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre, it features a book by Richy Hughes (Southwark Playhouse Superhero), and music and lyrics by Tim Sutton (Restless Natives, The Merry Wives of Windsor). The cast features Alistair Nwachukwu (The Line of Beauty, Shadow and Bone) as William Kamkwamba, with Madeline Appiah, Tsemaye Bob-Egbe, and Sifiso Mazibuko also starring.

Book now and experience a heartwarming and hopeful musical based on an incredible true story of perseverance and determination.
