The Producers in London
After delighting audiences during the festive season at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the first major revival of Mel Brooks’ madcap musical heads to the West End this autumn. Directed by Tony Award winner Patrick Marber, The Producers is a riotous comedy with a deliciously dark edge.
About The Producers
The plot concerns two theatrical producers who decide to make their fortune by fraudulently over-selling shares in a Broadway musical that has been carefully designed to fail. They hire the worst director they can find and do everything they can to sabotage their creation. But things get complicated when the show turns out to be a huge hit.
You’ll adore the antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they con their way through the story. The world-famous show tune ‘Springtime for Hitler’ is just as scandalous as ever. Because the whole story is intended to offend, at the end of the day nobody is offended despite the taking-the-mickey accents, flagrant caricatures of Jews, poking fun at gay people and giggling at the Nazis.
After 33 previews, the original Broadway production opened in London in 2001 with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick at the helm. It ran for 2502 performances, was nominated for 15 Tonys and won a record-breaking 12, inspired a successful two year West End production, toured the UK and USA, and in 2005 the movie version starred most of the original Broadway cast, scoring another enormous hit.
This is one of the few musicals to win in every Tony category it was nominated for, receiving two nominations for leading actor and three for featured actor. And with the West End legend Patrick Marber directing this time around, it’s all set to be a top seller.
The Producers cast and creative team
Andy Nyman, Marc Antolin, Trevor Ashley, Raj Ghatak, Harry Morrison and Joanna Woodward will reprise their roles from the original Menier run.
The book is by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, with music & lyrics by Mel Books. Original direction and choreography of The Producers is by Susan Stroman.
Arriving in the West End for the first time since 2004 this autumn, The Producers is bursting with witty humour, unforgettable songs, and stellar performances that have earned this production well-deserved critical acclaim.

A fun evening outThis show is over the top in every way. The Producers wish to produce a flop so deliberately choose the worst actors and singers and deliberately seek to insult everyone. The costumes and sets are extravagant. It is actually very entertaining and great fun.

An entertaining romp from the archives. Some very entertaining moments, some very funny. However, the message is unclear and the show somewhat dated. We would advise visitors to research the play and its offering before booking.

Very bad seats and mediocre performanceI’ve seen the same play in Broadway. Nothing to compare. Very mediocre and too much gay propaganda without any particular reason. The director shouts when singing.

Review: THE PRODUCERS at Garrick Theatre
by Stuart King | Wednesday, September 17 2025, 13:11
With a cast of 23 eager performers, the Menier Chcolate Factory’s production of Mel Brooks’ THE PRODUCERS this week completed its West End transfer and is all set for a six month run. Last year’s revival resulted in unprecedented critical success and the production played to sold-out houses and enthusiastic audiences for 12 weeks at the 180 seat fringe venue. But how does it fare within the altogether larger Victorian environs of the Garrick Theatre on Charing Cross Road?
