The Selfish Giant in London

A new folk opera from multi-award-winning composer, Guy Chambers.

THE SELFISH GIANT is a new folk opera adapted from Oscar Wilde’s classic children’s story by multi-award winning composer, producer and song-writer Guy Chambers (famed writer with Robbie Williams, including No. 1 hit-songs Angels, Feel and Let Me Entertain You).

The Selfish Giant has a beautiful garden, but he won’t let any of the children play in it. Winter comes and never leaves. The Giant looks over his garden from his tall window. What will he do?

A strictly limited run, director Bill Buckhurst’s extraordinary and unique concert staging is set to transport you to a magical world through music (credits include celebrated London to New York transfer, Sweeney Todd). Part of the critically-acclaimed Oscar Wilde season, don’t miss this exciting new production from Classic Spring Theatre Company and Royal and Derngate, Northampton.

Designed by Simon Kenny (Sweeney Todd) and choreographed by Imogen Knight (Amadeus), the cast includes Jeff Nicholson as the Giant (Sweeney Todd, ENO; Urinetown, Apollo Theatre), and Scott Sutcliffe (The Book of Mormon, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Jacob Fisher (Eugenius!, The Addams Family) and Olly Dobson (Bat Out of Hell, Matilda) as Boy. Natasha Cottriall and Laura Sillett narrate, with Laila Zaidi as Hail; Rose Shalloo as Charlie; and Izuka Hoyle as Little Boy.

A beautiful way to spend an afternoon

Loud

Unfortinately, the show was ruined for me because of the noise made by children in attendance. This show is excellent for families but parents should be aware of other members in the audience. Constant food wrappers, crisps, sweets and other noise kids made ruined watching the play. Extremely loud and very unpleasant. Food should not be allowed!!! Parents should be trained how to look after their kids during the show.
