Tickets will go on sale soon for The Story at the National Theatre, opening on 27th August 2026. In this electrifying newsroom thriller, a white teacher is killed in a black neighbourhood, sending shockwaves through the community. Four black journalists, including ambitious and rebellious young reporter Yvonne Wilson (Letitia Wright), race against the clock to find out the truth at whatever cost. But when shocking new evidence comes to life, bringing them closer to the dark truth behind the case, each one is forced to confront what they're prepared to risk to tell their version of the truth.

Written by American playwright Tracey Scott-Wilson, this whip-smart, thrilling mystery is directed by Clint Dyer (Othello, Death of England) and stars BAFTA Award-winner Letitia Wright (Black Panther) in her West End debut, with Ashley Thomas (Hostage), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black), and Wilf Scolding (Cabaret) also in the cast. Praised as 'smart, slick, and engrossing' by Variety, this new play was inspired by the saga of Janet Cooke, a Washington Post reporter who won a Pulitzer Prize for a sensational story that turned out to be fiction. The Story is a brutal, cutting exploration of race and media, the shifting boundaries between reality and fiction, and the elusive nature of the truth.
