Elephant in London

Elephant is the story of Lylah, a young mixed-race woman who grew up overlooked and misunderstood by her family and teachers. As an adult, she pursues her dream of being a musician while searching for love. Throughout, her constant companion is a mysterious piano that fell out of the sky one day. It is very much inspired by writer and performer Anoushka Lucas’s (Rhinoceros, A Face in the Crowd, Oklahoma) experiences as a mixed race musician.

Part gig, part monologue, Elephant is both a celebration of a love of music and a daring exploration of mixed race identity and class in 21st century Britain. It was originally commissioned and developed by Bush Theatre, performed first in their studio space before transferring to their main theatre. It won Lucas the Best Writer Award at The Stage Debut Awards. The Guardian called it a "magnetic monologue on mixed-race identity in Britain" and the Financial Times praised it as "a gem of a show that unpicks the history behind easy assumptions and lazy labels".

Book now and don’t miss this brilliantly original, fierce one-woman show that asks questions that are as pertinent today as they were when it was first performed.
