Written by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, this prequel play to the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, based on George R R Martin's bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire books, takes place over a decade before the events of Game of Thrones, and tells the story of the fateful string of events that would trigger Robert Baratheon's rebellion and the fall of the Targaryen dynasty. The great houses of Westeros gather at a grand tournament in Harrenhal, where celebration turns to suspicion and whispers of treason begin to fly around King Aerys's inner circle.
After a sell-out, critically acclaimed run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Game of Thrones: The Mad King is coming to London. Now London fans can experience the thrill of revisiting the deadly, fantastic world of Westeros and seeing familiar characters like Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon, Rhaegar Targaryen, and Lyanna Stark in a brand new light onstage. Get ready for dragons, sword battles, prophecies, forbidden love, and all the political intrigue and scheming we know and love from Martin's story. The Mad King is an epic story of legacy, power, betrayal, and madness that would do Shakespeare proud. Game of Thrones fans, lovers of epic fantasy, and newcomers alike will fall in love with this brand new story in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe told through the magic of theatre.
Winter is coming. Don't miss your chance to return to Westeros for another epic story.
