Dolly Parton Musical - Here You Come Again

The tour dates have been announced for the new Dolly Parton musical Here You Come Again, kicking off at the Leeds Playhouse for its UK premiere in summer 2024. The biggest news of all, though, is the tantalising glimpse of a West End transfer. Here’s what you can expect when the show finally hits the capital and takes over theatreland.

The US production was written by the two-time Emmy award-winning comedy writer and songwriter Bruce Vilanch, along with Gabriel Barre who directed the musical, and the delightful Tricia Paoluccio who played the role of Dolly herself.

Now Here You Come Again, named for one of Dolly’s best-loved tunes, has been adapted for the UK by the respected British playwright Jonathan Harvey, who gave us Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and Coronation Street.

A co-production with Simon Friend Entertainment, the musical is on stage from 11th May to 8th June 2024 in Leeds, for the UK premiere, then it takes off on an extensive UK tour before landing in the West End. The West End dates and plans are yet to be revealed, as is the full cast and creative team.

Setting it in the UK with a brilliant new British actor playing the lead role of Kevin, along with a creative UK design team, gives us a chance to take a fresh approach to a story that features all of Dolly's biggest hits, along with her wit and wisdom, which the world needs today, more than ever. She will be gloriously brought to life by the American actor, Tricia Paoluccio, who has been stunning audiences everywhere, embodying the spirit, humour, and heart that have made Dolly an enduring icon.”

As you’d expect the musical is crammed with beautiful iconic songs including the haunting Jolene, funky 9 to 5, romantic Islands in the Stream and I Will Always Love You, and the title tune Here You Come Again.

The plot is vibrant and warm-hearted, telling the tale of a dedicated Dolly fan who imagines the singer by his side through difficult times. Dolly’s legendary wit, humour and charm teach him about life, love, and how to JFDI despite everything. Your boots might not be studded with rhinestones - but you can still be like Dolly and do what Dolly would do.

Designed to make you smile, this is a joyful, positive, altogether gorgeous musical theatre experience that’s going to light up the UK on tour and create sparks in the West End. Lovely stuff.
