Starring:
Felicity Kendal, Helen George
This dazzling and witty musical returns to the West End, directed by Rachel Kavanaugh and featuring the joyful, unforgettable music of American composer and songwriter Cole Porter. Don't miss this delightful musical filled with mistaken identity, romance, comedy, and a whole range of catchy songs.
Why you should watch High Society
- It features a breath-takingly beautiful and catchy score featuring the best of Cole Porter's songbook including 'Just One Of Those Things', 'Let's Misbehave', 'I Love Paris', 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?', and many more.
- A star-studded cast, including Helen George (Call the Midwife, The King and I) Felicity Kendal (Rosemary and Thyme, Anything Goes) bring this delightfully funny story to life.
- High Society is the perfect summer treat for audiences of all ages and from all walks of life: with wacky hijinks, heart, unforgettable characters, witty zingers, and songs that'll have your feet tapping along.
What is High Society about?
You're invited to the party of the year with glamourous socialite Tracy Lord from Oyster Bay, who is set to wed an equally pretentious executive. Planning is underway for this dazzling high society wedding, but preparations soon descend into chaos when Tracy's ex-husband arrives on the scene. Old flames and new flames clash for Tracy's favour while an eagle-eyed tabloid reporter hunts for a whiff of scandal on this sprawling waterfront estate. First premiering on Broadway in 1998, with multiple revivals following, High Society features the joyful, witty music of American composer and songwriter Cole Porter, making it one of his most enduring musical legacies.
Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Shadowlands), with a book by Arthur Kopit, music and lyrics by Cole Porter (Kiss Me, Kate, Anything Goes), and choreography by Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia! Kiss Me, Kate), High Society is a sumptuous, dazzling, and witty classic picked with glamour, mistaken identity, romance, and comedy. Helen George (Call the Midwife, The King and I) stars as Tracy, along with Felicity Kendal (Rosemary and Thyme, Anything Goes) as her mother, as well as a 28-strong ensemble cast and a full size orchestra. This lavish production features a score filled with Porter's classic and beloved songs such as 'Just One Of Those Things', 'Let's Misbehave', 'I Love Paris', 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?', and many more. George said, 'I can't wait for audiences to enjoy a sparkling evening of comedy, romance, and sheer musical joy.'
Funny and glamorous, High Society will be your perfect summer treat for London audiences at the Barbican.

Enjoyable but not 5*Disappointed that top of the bill Helen George was indisposed. Replacement Isabel Snaas did a good job Love Cole Porter songs but too many non original to High Society shoved in to pad out thin plot

The epitome of musical theatre!I went into this show completely blind as I’ve never watched the film or listened to the soundtrack before and I was blown away by how brilliant it was! Fantastic music with some incredible vocals, accompanied by such colourful timeless costumes and joyful dance sequences. Had a brilliant time and would highly recommend to all.

Great production of this entertaining storyHigh quality and entertaining version of the play. Great sets and costumes. Loved the classic songs in particular. Personally thought there were maybe too many solo songs padding out the plot and the 'clown' scene with Dexter, George and Mike could have been better choreographed and more polished but that is a minor, and maybe unfair criticism.

A must see show, unmissableHigh Society was a great show, a real unmissable must see. A great cast, great music, and relatable comedy in places, and a real presentation of the original movie with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. I don't say this about many musical theatre shows, but this was the best I've seen in many years, since the great 42nd Street.

Not a must see showI might have liked it better if 1) I didn’t know the movie so well 2) I hadn’t watched “The Producers“ 4 hours before which was 5-star in every single category

Colorful, Energetic, FunMusic, outstanding. Singers equally so. The number of songs - all wonderful- slowed the plot down considerably. Might have been better just to stage a Cole Porter review. Highlights for me were: the JAZZ number, Did You Evah duet, and I’ve Got You Under My Skin solo.

Fabulous show almost ruined by extremely uncomfortable seatingThe show was spectacular with a brilliant cast, fabulous singing and dancing and some very memorable songs. It would have been a lovely, enjoyable theatre experience had it not been for our seating, which is the worst I have ever had the misfortune to experience. The show had to compete for our attention against real discomfort and it is a true compliment to say that it managed to for the most part. Would I recommend the show to others? Yes, in a heartbeat, just not where I was sitting!
