Indian Ink in London
Starring:
Felicity Kendal
India, 1930: Bloomsbury Group poet Flora Crewe travels to India for her health. Her free-spirited, uninhibited nature makes waves wherever she goes, but quickly captures the heart of Nirad Das, a handsome Indian painter. Fifty years later, in England, Flora's sister Mrs Swan is visited by an American biographer trying to uncover what exactly happened on Flora's trip. Confusing things further, Nirad's son soon appears in her garden with a nude portrait of Flora painted by his father.
An evocative exploration of how art can overcome cultural barriers, Tom Stoppard's clever, witty play satirises the self-importance of academia and the ruling class. This will be the first major revival of Indian Ink since 1995, when Felicity Kendal originated the role of Flora Crewe, which Stoppard wrote specifically for her. She now returns to play Mrs Swan in a poignant and nostalgic casting choice. Directed by Jonathan Kent (House of Games, Double Feature, The Forest), in his first collaboration with Stoppard, Indian Ink is a story of passion, empire, and memory that takes place across two continents and five decades. The cast also features Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (Grace Pervades) as Flora Crewe, and Gavi Singh Chera (Pins and Needles, The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power) as Nirad Das.
Don't miss a rare chance to see Stoppard's witty, passionate play for the first time in thirty years, in a sparkling revival that stars a legendary actress.
