La bohème (Royal Opera House) in London

In Paris, Rodolfo, a penniless poet, falls in love at first sight with Mimi, a seamstress, and brings her into his world of struggling bohemians, weathering the hardships of a cold winter through friendship, resilience, and artistry. But he soon learns that Mimi is gravely ill with consumption, and may not have long to live, leaving the young romantic with a devastating choice: stay by her side through her sickness or abandon her and move on. Loosely based on the novel Scenes de la vie de boheme by Henri Murger, La boheme is one of Puccini's most famous operas, utterly memorable for its endearing outcast characters, powerful love story, and heartbreaking conclusion.

Puccini's timeless opera has captured the imaginations of audiences worldwide for years, even inspiring the beloved musical Rent. with its romantic Parisian setting, tender exploration of first love, and heartwarming celebration of friendship, it's a perfect introduction to opera for newcomers. Richard Jones's colourful, dynamic staging brings to life the modernism of a Paris on the cusp of change, told through the eyes of the city's Bohemian dreamers. Conductor Lorenzo Passerini makes his debut with The Royal Opera and Christopher Willis to bring to life Puccini's breathtaking, epic score with its soaring love duets, intimate arias, and poignant laments, featuring classics such as 'Si, mi chiamano Mimi' ('Yes, they call me Mim') and Musetta's Quando m'en vo' ('When I go along'). La boheme is one of the best-loved and recognisable operas in the world and the opera most frequently performed at the Royal Opera House.

Whether you're new to this beloved story or revisiting it for a second time, don't miss your chance to catch a classic and ever-popular opera in this breathtaking staging.
