Mr Loverman in London
Now booking! Tickets for Mr Loverman are on sale and the show opens at the Lyttelton - National Theatre on Thursday, 25 February 2027. Book early for the best choice of seats for the opening weeks.
Seventy-four year old Barrington Walker is Antiguan born and now an upstanding member of his Hackney community, dapper and charming, a husband, father, and grandfather. But he has one big secret: for the last sixty years, he's been in a secret relationship with his best friend Morris. When his marriage to his wife Carmel collapses, he has some big choices to make. Spanning six decades of life from Antigua to modern-day London, Mr Loverman is a groundbreaking exploration of Britain's older Caribbean community with all its cultural myths and prejudices, told through a story that's funny, heartwarming, and life-affirming.
Based on the acclaimed 2011 novel by best-selling author Bernardine Evaristo, Mr Loverman has been adapted for the stage by Natasha Gordon (Nine Night) and directed by Paulette Randall (Fences). For the first time, get ready to see Evaristo's beloved characters come to life on the stage, and witness a riveting, dramatic story of family, love, and choosing yourself. Leading the cast are Danny Sapani (Les Blancs, King Lear, Black Panther) as Barry, Jo Martin (Doctor Who, Small Axe) as his wife Carmel, and Gary Beadle (Les Blancs, EastEnders) as Morris.
Whether you loved the book or are new to the story, you won't want to miss this remarkable world premiere.
