Full casting has been announced for the West End transfer of Martin McDonagh’s smash-hit new play Hangmen, due to open at Wyndham’s Theatre on the 7 December 2015.
Director and actor Andy Nyman will be replacing Reece Shearsmith in the title role; he will be joined by Tony Hirst as Bill and Craig Parkinson as Inspector Fry.
David Morrissey and Johnny Flynn will reprise their roles as Harry and Mooney, respectively. They will be joined once again by James Dryden, Sally Rogers, Josef Davies, John Hodgkinson, Simon Rouse, Ryan Pope and Bronwyn James.
Directed by Matthew Dunster, Hangmen tells the story of the second-best hangman in England. Set against the backdrop of the abolishment of capital punishment in 1964, the play opened at the Royal Court Theatre in September 2015 to huge critical success, selling out in the opening weeks.
Writer Martin McDonagh is best known for his two Irish play trilogies. The first comprises The Beauty Queen of Leenane, A Skull in Connemara and The Lonesome West. The second is made up of The Lieutenant of Inishmore, The Banshees of Inisheer and The Cripple of Inishmaan. The last of this trilogy enjoyed a hugely successful revival as part of the first Michael Grandage season last year, with Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role.
Hangmen opens at Wyndham’s theatre in the heart of London’s West End on the 7 December 2015 and runs through to March 2016. Tickets are proving incredibly popular, so get booking soon!
