Jonathan Bailey to star in new production of RICHARD II at the Bridge Theatre

The award-winning stage and screen actor who featured in the popular period drama Bridgerton as well as the highly anticipated Wicked film will lead the new production.

Jonathan Bailey will reunite with director Nicholas Hytner is a brand new production of RICHARD II at the Bridge Theatre from 10 February 2025.
Bailey has had a prolific and acclaimed stage and TV career, including playing Edgar in Ian McKellen's King Lear. He also won an Olivier Award for his portrayal of Jamie in Company.
Richard II will be designed by Bob Crowley (for The Bridge: Straight Line Crazy; The Book of Dust – La Belle Sauvage; in the West End: Olivier Award-winning An American in Paris) with Lighting Design by Bruno Poet (for The Bridge: Julius Caesar; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; in theWest End: Tina – The Tina Turner Musical). Lily Dyble is the Associate Director and the Casting Director is Robert Sterne (for The Bridge: Straight Line Crazy; The Southbury Child; for screen: Game of Thrones; The Crown).
Shakespeare's subtle, ambiguous, and beautiful play captures feudal England on the brink of modernity, where a divinely sanctioned monarch faces the pragmatic challenge of real authority embodied by Henry Bolingbroke.
Richard II will run at the Bridge Theatre from 19 February until 10 May, following the smash-hit musical Guys and Dolls which completes its run on 4 January 2025.
