This off-beat, outrageous dark comedy reimagines the story of Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of her husband - US president Abraham Lincoln. In this tongue-in-cheek take on history, Mary is a foul-tempered alcoholic, stuck in an unhappy marriage with the deeply closeted Abe, desperate to relive her glory days as a cabaret dancer.

Directed by Sam Pinkleton, Oh, Mary! premiered off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in January 2024, before a Broadway transfer to the Lyceum Theatre in July 2024, where it broke box office records and continues to play to sold out audiences. It had its West End premiere at Trafalgar Theatre on 3 December 2025 and won Best Entertainment or Comedy Play at this year’s Olivier Awards. It was recently filmed in the West End.

BAFTA nominee Lolly Adefope will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln from Cole Escola, who is currently in the role until 15 August, and Jinkx Monsoon, who will perform from 17 August to 26 September. The English stand-up comedian and actress is best known for playing Fran in the Hulu comedy series Shrill and as Kitty in the beloved BBC comedy Ghosts, for which she was nominated for a National Comedy Award in 2021. She is the latest in a line-up of celebrities, including Catherine Tate, who have taken on this iconic role.

Adefope will play a 10-week season from 28 September until 5 December. The full cast accompanying her will be announced in due course.
