A Shameful Nazi secret to be revealed at the Arts Theatre this Summer

Savage - Arts Theatre A fascinating new play has been announced for the Arts Theatre this June and July.

Described as a love story SAVAGE, according to the press release promises to “uncover the tragic tale of a Nazi doctor and his ill-conceived “cure” for homosexuality”

Apparently In the late 1930s, Danish doctor Carl Peter Værnet discovered what he believed to be “the cure for homosexuality”, and was given a prominent post at the Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald. After the liberation by Allied forces, Dr Værnet was allowed to flee to South America, where he continued to experiment on thousands of live subjects, with the full knowledge of both the British and Danish authorities.

SAVAGE will uncover the story of Dr Værnet and present it alongside a love story exploring how Dr Værnet’s “cure” might have affected the homosexual men experimented on. He remains largely unwritten about and unresearched, apart from a ground-breaking piece by Guardian journalist Peter Tatchell in 2015, who will be taking part in a post-show Q & A.

The play is written and directed by Claudio Macor, whose play VENETIAN HEAT I once directed. He’s very good and combining melodrama and pertinent commentary on forgotten moments of gay history and cast includes two of favourite actors Alexander Huetson and Christopher Hinds who starred in play ENCOUNTER last year.

So, I’m expecting great things!

The performance dates are June 29th 2016 – July 23rd 2016 Monday – Saturday, 7:30pm Saturday matinees, 2:30pm.

The Arts Theatre is at 6-7 Great Newport St, London WC2H 7JB and tickets are £22/£18 (concessions)
