Shucked in London
It made a splash on Broadway, now Shucked is en route to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre for a London transfer. A hilarious musical comedy, it delighted hard-to-please New York audiences thanks to a darned funny script and toe-tapping country music score. Yee-har!
About Shucked
Welcome to corn-loving Cobb County USA, a village cut off from civilisation by a wall of corn stalks. Maizy and Beau are about to get married when disaster strikes and the corn that protects their small town starts to die. Somebody has to do something about it and the job falls to brave Maizy, who sets off on an adventure to find help. This laugh-a-minute musical tells a riotous story packed with surprising twists thanks to the unlikely hero, a shady con artist, an eccentric plot and an addictive soundtrack you'll be singing for weeks afterwards.
The original Broadway production began previews at the Nederlander Theatre in March 2023, opening in early April to a string of positive reviews. It went on to receive nine nominations at the 76th Tony Award ceremony, including Best Musical, and cast member Alex Newell was one of the first two openly non-binary performers to be nominated for and win a Tony, winning Best Featured Actor in a Musical. This is the show's UK premiere, and there's an Australia tour on the cards for 2026.
Shucked cast and creatives
Monique Ashe-Palmer plays Storyteller 1, Ben Joyce (Back to the Future the Musical) is Beau and Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey) plays Maizy, with Georgina Onuorah (Kiss Me, Kate, Hamilton, The Wizard of Oz) as Lulu, Keith Ramsay as Peanut and Matthew Seadon-Young as Gordy. Steven Webb is Storyteller 2.
Jack O'Brien directs. Sarah O’Gleby is the Choreographer and Scott Pask is Set Designer. Katy Richardson is Musical Director, John Shivers the Sound Designer, and Japhy Weideman the Lighting Designer. Aundrea Fudge is the Voice and Dialect Coach and Jill Green CDG is Casting Director. Tilly Grimes is the Costume Designer. Carol Hancock handles the UK Wigs, plus Hair and Makeup Design and Supervision. Jason Howland is Music Supervisor, responsible for Orchestrations and Arrangements, and Ingrid Mackinnon is responsible for Intimacy Support.
Part of Shucked's appeal is its old-school style, reminding audiences of all-time legends like The Book of Mormon, Oklahoma! and The Music Man. Described as 'hilarious, heartfelt, and totally original' this musical extravaganza is warm hearted, optimistic and vibrant, giving it a top class feel-good factor score. Gutsy, witty and great fun.

Genuinely funny and great songsI didn’t know too much about this show but it was genuinely funny and there are some great songs and performances and the story is really fun. There is some swearing and some of the jokes are rude but likely to go over kids heads. Really enjoyable and feel good.
