Something Rotten! in London

The side-splitting mash-up of song, dance and Elizabethan absurdity tells the story behind the creation of the world’s very first musical. Step into the 1590s, where brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play, but it’s impossible to get out of the shadow of the biggest and most pompous Renaissance rockstar: William Shakespeare himself. When a quirky soothsayer predicts an outrageous future for theatre - one which involves acting, singing, and dancing at the same time - the brothers set out to invent a brand new phenomenon called a musical. Zany, madcap, and brimming with love for the musical theatre genre, Something Rotten opened on Broadway to rave reviews and endless love from audiences and now it’s making its way across the pond.

Created by the award-winning team behind Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical: Grammy award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick (Change the World, Every Heartbeat), screenwriter Karey Kirkpatrick (Chicken Run, Over the Hedge, James and the Giant Peach) and best-selling author and comedy scriptwriter John O’Farrell (Spitting Image, Have I Got News for You, Just For One Day), Something Rotten is directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson (Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York). After plans for the initial UK premiere were cancelled during the pandemic, Something Rotten was first seen in concert last year at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, with that show winning the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Concert Event. Now, finally, British audiences will get to enjoy this highly-anticipated show in all its quirky, kooky glory. This new production will open in Manchester, playing at the Opera House, before making its London transfer.

Don’t miss your chance to catch this hilarious comedy about the chaotic birth of the musical when it has its UK premiere.
