The Magic Flute in London
Step into an enchanting, magical land, where the beautiful Princess Pamina has been captured by the enchanter Sarastro. Her mother, the Queen of the Night, charges Prince Taimino with rescuing her, and Taimino sets off on his perilous quest accompanied by the bird-catcher Papageno. Guided by a magic flute, they face monsters and villains and learn nothing is ever truly as it seems.
David McVicar’s enchanting production, conducted by French conductor Marie Jacquot in her Covent Garden debut, captures the magic and wonder of Mozart's most popular opera, and the last one composed before his untimely death. Filled with comedy and farce, romance and adventure, moral allegory and philosophy, this opera has everything you could ask for in a great story. It features iconic pieces of music, such as the Queen of the Night’s famous aria, ‘Der Hölle Rache’ (‘The wrath of hell’), which has retained its emotional impact after all these years. The Magic Flute has inspired and influenced countless works that followed it. Now it’s your chance to witness the magic of this timeless story of love and courage.
