Twelfth Night (Barbican) in London
Following its wildly successful run in Stratford-upon-Avon, Prasanna Puwarajah's visually stunning, witty, and electric production of Twelfth Night comes to the Barbican stage. Samuel West (Malvolio), Freema Agyeman (Olivia), and Michael Grady-Hall (Feste) reprise their roles. Twelfth Night has all the ingredients of a classic Shakespearean comedy: mistaken identities, love triangles, women disguised as men, and fools who know more than they're letting on.
Viola is the sole survivor of a terrible shipwreck that leaves her stranded on unknown shores. Grieving the loss of her twin brother, she decides to assume his identity, disguising herself as a man and gaining service with Duke Orsino. Orsino is hopelessly in love with the beautiful Olivia, and sends Viola to act as his liaison to her, but Olivia will have none of it. Instead, she begins to show interest in Orsino's beautiful young servant, but Viola is already in love with the Duke. Chaos and hilarity ensue.
