Avenue Q in London

After twenty years, Robert Lopez and Jeffrey Marx's three-time Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q is finally returning to the West End. Mischievous, badly behaved, and irresistibly charming, Avenue Q brings together puppets and human actors to tell the story of a group of misfits living in a rundown building as they try to navigate the realities of adulthood.

Why you should see Avenue Q

  • Described as Sesame Street for adults, Avenue Q has a delightfully unique and quirky concept, blending adult humour with a colourful, disarmingly adorable cast of puppets.
  • You'll fall in love with the eccentric cast of characters, humans and puppets alike: endearingly hopeless, politically incorrect, foul-mouthed, and utterly unforgettable.
  • The original Broadway director and puppet designer of Avenue Q are reuniting to reignite all the magic, mischief, and stage magic that's made the show so enduringly popular.

What is Avenue Q about?

The musical centres around the residents of the titular Avenue Q, a run-down and shabby apartment in New York City. Princeton, freshly graduated from college and struggling to find his purpose in life, is the latest arrival. He's quickly pulled into the wild, eccentric world of his neighbours, a band of loveable misfits all trying to fumble their way through adulthood: finding and holding down a job, navigating love and relationships, and all the joys of sex, alcohol, and pornography. Did we mention most of the cast are puppets…?

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and a book by Jeff Whitty. It first premiered off-Broadway in 2003 and landed in London at the Noël Coward Theatre in 2006, where it enchanted and delighted audiences for four years before closing in 2010. And now, London audiences have the enviable opportunity to experience the bawdy humour, quirky characters, and colourful, eclectic stage magic of Avenue Q after 20 years. Original Broadway director Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect, Shrek the Musical) and original puppet designer Rick Lyon team up to bring back the magic of this utterly unique and endearing musical comedy. Irreverent, mischievous, and charmingly funny, Avenue Q is full of catchy songs and unforgettable characters, blending outrageously adult themes with disarmingly adorable puppets.

Don't miss the much-anticipated return of this mischievous, charming, and hilarious musical comedy, returning for a strictly limited season in the spring.

A fantastic evening of dark comedy

Anyone who hasn’t seen Avenue Q must enter the theatre with an open mind but will enjoy one of the most surreal night of entertainmen. Exceptionally funny, brilliantly performed, with great adult humour. Deep inside that humour and some truths. Brilliant entertainment

Fabulous return of a Brilliant show!

I saw Avenue Q first time around and loved it. Having seen a touring version of Miss Saigon recently I was disappointed with the newer version. Therefore I was concerned that Avenue Q may have been altered negatively from the original. However, it's true to the original version. You laugh out loud and feel empathy in the more thought provoking bits. You leave singing the songs. What else could a show offer? 😀
