Cats in London

Starring:

Beverley Knight

Andrew Lloyd Webber's timeless classic is returning to London after ten years. Experience the magic, whimsy, and spectacle of the Jellicle Cats in a colourful outdoor production at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre for seven weeks only, featuring all your favourite mischievous, memorable characters and songs that'll be stuck in your head for days after.

Why you should see Cats

  • The show has a dazzling soundtrack, featuring some of the most memorable songs in musical history, including 'Old Deuteronomy', 'Macavity: The Mystery Cat', 'Jellicle Ball' and the chart-topping hit 'Memory'.
  • Cats will be performed at the beautiful open-air theatre in the gorgeous Regent's Park in the middle of summer, making it the perfect summertime experience.
  • A quintessential megamusical, Cats has all the ingredients of a classic Lloyd Webber show: elaborate setpieces, a massive ensemble cast, glorious special effects, large-scale song-and-dance numbers, making it a favourite of musical lovers worldwide.

What is Cats about?

Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, Cats is a story about, well, cats. More specifically, it follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicle Cats, who come together for a once-a-year event where their leader, Old Deuteronomy, will announce the cat who can now be reborn and come back in a different life. Full of colour, spectacle, and song, Cats introduces you to a dizzying array of eccentric, charming, and unique feline characters in an utterly one-of-a-kind adventure.

Cats was one of the longest running shows on Broadway and in the West End, and now you can experience the magic and whimsy all over again. A brand new staging of the iconic musical is set to play at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in summer 2026 for seven weeks only, before embarking on a UK-wide tour through to summer 2027. This will be the third Lloyd Webber title produced by Regent's Park Open Air Theatre after Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, and part of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Harrison's producing partnership, which aims to reinvent Lloyd Webber's back catalogue.

Directed and choreographed by former cast member Drew McOnie, who said, "I can't wait to share this much-loved piece with a new generation of audiences both in the stunning outdoor setting of Regent's Park Open Air Theatre and in theatres across the UK". Lloyd Webber said, "I am very excited to see a totally new production of Cats back on the stage where it belongs. I can think of no one better than Drew McOnie to bring a new vision to the world of the Jellicles".

Don't miss your chance to experience the magic and wonder of Cats in one of the most beautiful theatre venues in London.

Mágical lady

Excellent production. The music and singing was on point. The seats were comfortable and the venue was good we were able to see and hear everthing on the upper level. This was my first experience at the open air theatre and I would definitely recommend it.

Cats fantastical

Loved the show but first half was ruined by the venue, no checks found what so ever, felt very unsafe could of let anyone in and in these times for a family event this was the most non secure place ever been to, wheather or not there was computerised checks/scanners not aware of but i didn’t see anything and that was not good enough. The show was fantastic once eased into second half, actirs fantastic and would love to see again if another venue, shame really, dreamland margate is safer!

I have seen the Original Cats at least 30 times as my friends John Partridge and Jack Rebaldi were in it. I found the costumes very disappointing they were very bland and McCavity still needs the red eyes as all you could was a shadow and Rum tum tugger still needs his main....other than that it was brilliant...but costumes a no go

Cats in the park

I really enjoyed Cats in Regent's Park. My husband not so much, but then, he isn't really a lover of musical theatre. However even he agreed that the atmosphere of the show and the lighting were superb. We originally wanted to see the matinee, however felt that the atmosphere in the evening suited the show much better and we were definitely pleased that's when we went. I would highly recommend seeing it. It was almost like a ballet with the wonderful cats dancers. Maybe take a cushion and a blanket. Try get there early and have a picnic in the theatre grounds. All very picturesque although the walk back to the street after the show was very dark.

An enjoyable evening out

This was an enjoyable music and dance extravaganza - my only criticism was that it was hard to make out the lyrics of the songs, but the energy and enthusiasm of the cast was infectious. They genuinely moved round the stage with a feline grace. The accompanying music was excellent and I am still humming the tunes. The outdoor setting made it all extra special. At the interval, the very long queue for the loos moved surprisingly quickly.

A beautiful artistic creation

A great story line with wonderful imaginative constructions, profoundly strengthened by remarkable balletic interpretations reminiscent of Diaghilev, Nijinsky and the Ballet Russe of the 1920's. Every cat character was an extraordinary poetic interpretation. Brilliant! it engaged my Grandchildren of 4 and 6 years, but also their Grandfather in his 80th year!

Wonderful Cats in the Park

This Cats was even better than the Palladium version, the setting lending itself to the presentation of Cats. Spilt leaps were no problem, and the cast tirelessly kept in character. The whole performance was wonderful but a special mention to the coolness & swagger of the Curiosity Cat, the gravity defying Magical Cat and the singing of both the “sexy” duo and Grizabella, the latter giving us goosebumps! We wish you well with the rest of the production. It should be a sellout.

My review does not have a title.

This show was like nothing I had ever seen before. Everything about it was outstanding: the set, the lighting and especially the costumes. Most of all, the dance routines were superb, and I marvelled at the ability of the cast to remember them, let alone actually perform them. At times the music was a bit loud for my taste, but that probably reflects my age! I am very glad I went to see this show, and I would recommend anyone to do the same. (You have insisted above on my rating the story, but there wasn't really a story, and there wasn't meant to be; so that question is a bit superfluous.)

We sat in the front row which was row c. Was a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to see well as we were at the same level as the stage. So we found some cushions which made us a little taller and more comfortable. Because we were so close we had an amazing view of the cats faces, which meant we were captivated by the expression on the cats faces, especially the tan coloured cat. We felt part of the performance.

Cats was the first musical I ever saw when I was 14 years old (34years ago) it was amazing, I saw it another 4 times over the next 5 years. I always promised my son that if it ever came back to London I would take him, I live in Dubai and just by luck happen to be in London on business, my son is at boarding school here in uk so I looked to see if there was anything we could see over the weekend and to my delight cats was back on for 6 weeks only! It was meant to be as I managed to get the last 2 available seats in the house! We had the most wonderful weekend together and he loved it as much as I did! I am so glad I could re visit my youth and give my son the experience as well. Fabulous!
