Cats in London
Starring:

Cats the Musical – A legend in its own lifetime
A billion pounds... that's an awful lot of money, and this amazing show's staggering revenue proves exactly how popular Cats has been since it first graced the stage in 1981. Composed by the ridiculously talented Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on a delightful book by T S Eliot called Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this production, originally brought to the stage by Cameron Macintosh, is guaranteed to delight. Your venue is the London Palladium, and the action kicks off in December 2014.
Cats has won numerous awards since it's dramatic entry into the world's musical theatre consciousness. It has taken the crown as Best Musical twice, both at the Laurence Olivier Awards and the Tonys. The London show ran for an astonishing twenty one years non-stop, a record breaker. And it played for eighteen years on Broadway too.
2014 sees the show breaking yet more records, as the second longest-running show in Broadway's chequered history, a huge accolade. Only surpassed by Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, it is adored worldwide and has been translated into more than twenty languages including Japanese and Finnish.
In 1998 the musical was turned into a well-loved made for TV movie. T S Eliot would be both astonished and proud to see his little book, created for fun, take the entire theatre-loving world by storm.
Cats is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's best loved musicals. The costumes are breathtaking, the creatures' personalities are beautifully presented and the whole is a genuine theatrical delight, suspending belief in the most charming and unusual way.
Cats the Musical - The story
A group of very odd cats, who live in a junk yard, are competing to see which will be chosen to ascend into the heavenly so-called 'Heaviside layer'. The lucky cat will return to enjoy another of their legendary nine lives. The cat tribe is called The Jellicles, and the event they hold dear to their hearts is called 'The Jellicle choice'. Who will succeed and enjoy the feline version of immortality?

This show was like nothing I had ever seen before. Everything about it was outstanding: the set, the lighting and especially the costumes. Most of all, the dance routines were superb, and I marvelled at the ability of the cast to remember them, let alone actually perform them. At times the music was a bit loud for my taste, but that probably reflects my age! I am very glad I went to see this show, and I would recommend anyone to do the same. (You have insisted above on my rating the story, but there wasn't really a story, and there wasn't meant to be; so that question is a bit superfluous.)

We sat in the front row which was row c. Was a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to see well as we were at the same level as the stage. So we found some cushions which made us a little taller and more comfortable. Because we were so close we had an amazing view of the cats faces, which meant we were captivated by the expression on the cats faces, especially the tan coloured cat. We felt part of the performance.

Cats was the first musical I ever saw when I was 14 years old (34years ago) it was amazing, I saw it another 4 times over the next 5 years. I always promised my son that if it ever came back to London I would take him, I live in Dubai and just by luck happen to be in London on business, my son is at boarding school here in uk so I looked to see if there was anything we could see over the weekend and to my delight cats was back on for 6 weeks only! It was meant to be as I managed to get the last 2 available seats in the house! We had the most wonderful weekend together and he loved it as much as I did! I am so glad I could re visit my youth and give my son the experience as well. Fabulous!

I really enjoyed it, my niece also who had not seen it before felt it was wonderful. For me I will still hold the first time around my favourite, but for anyone else who has not seen it before go and see it the production is truly magical.

I love musicals by Andrew Lloyd Webber so this was a must see for me. Full of wonderful singing and dancing, kept my attention the whole way through. Its a must see for all the family young and old. Best to book your seats early so you can have more choice over where you sit as some seats have restricted views, Royal circle is best.

The seats in this theater are very unkomfortable and the leg space is next to nothing. Even just because of that, it is quite hard to try to enjoy any kind of entertainment. The show itself was a bit of a dissapointment, I expected more, and my feeling was the show was a bit outdated. The music was not performed live, just the vocals. The playback of the music was in an 80's style synth and fake string arrangements, that were not impressing. On top of that the mix of the playback to the vocals was not done well and did not always blend well together. Also the vocals were dry and did not seem to have any kind of reverb on it at times. As a resault the music was not so impressive. But once I did have massive goosebumps because of a fantastic performance. And that was the song Memories performed by Bevegley Knight. A fantastic performance, and by far the best of them all. Because of this wonderful performance I stayed the whole time, waiting for another moment like that.

I was sadly disappointed with the musical " Cats". musical Cats. The music was very average although the solo performance of the song memory was very good. The whole show was extremely repetitive with the same dancing, music , dialog and songs. The song memory was song twice by a solo artist and again sung with cast members : three times in the one show.

close-up the costumes were clever, but from a distance almost indistinguishable from one another. dancers movements were too 'balletic', not nearly enough cat-like.sections of the story (poems) not sufficiently demarked

I had read some of the T S Eliot poems a couple of months before and wish I had done again so immediately before. I have read them since the show and they all make so much more sense! I enjoyed Act II more than Act I during which I was (too) intently trying to capture the theme and detailed stories. My favourite was Gus! - the actor was excellent and his double part worked really well. Were I directing, I would have left some minor details of Act I out such as the 'swing' and the 'thrown' Boot as amateurish, distracting and unnecessary to the story/action. Overall, good entertainment and the cast worked their socks off!

Tickets to review CATS are allocated by the West End's least helpful, indeed only unhelpful, press agent. And for the second year running I was informed there wasn't room for me. Perhaps that's why she gets some of the best shows, she keeps riff-raff like us out!
Anyway I've never actually seen CATS so, appropriately, curiosity got the better of me and I thought I'd buy a seat, the cheapest I could find, at the back, right at the top.
