Her adopted father, Sergeant Sulpice, will only allow her to marry within their ranks, so her lover, Tyrolean peasant Tonio, joins the troops in order to be with her. But the young lovers' romance is thrown into jeopardy when a chance encounter with the Marquise de Berkenfield reveals a long-buried secret about Marie's past.

This frothy comedy combines buoyant melodies and vocal challenges with a heartwarming story about unexpected families and first loves, filled with charming, unforgettable characters. Juan Diego Flórez returns to the role of Tonio alongside Jonah Hoskins, with Sara Blanch in her Royal Opera debut as the plucky heroine, Marie.
