Brace Yourself for Bad Behaviour… Avenue Q is returning to the West End from March 2026!
Heading to the Shaftesbury Theatre, current home of Just For One Day, it's the most unforgettable production with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and book by Jeff Whitty.

Winner of multiple Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Avenue Q is a comedy musical that follows Princeton, fresh out of college and in search of his purpose. He ends up in a shabby apartment on New York's rundown Avenue Q, surrounded by a group of colourful characters, together they try to navigate the life struggles of work, love, and paying the bills. A parody of the well-known children's TV programme Sesame Street, it heavily involves adult-oriented themes and has been carefully crafted to approach difficult topics such as racism, homosexuality, and internet pornography.
The original West End production played in 2006 at the Noel Coward Theatre, where it played for 1,179 performances before subsequent runs at the Gielgud Theatre and Wyndham's Theatre. Last November, a concert production was held at the Sondheim Theatre to celebrate the production's 18th anniversary, starring the original West End cast. That original West End cast included some familiar faces, including Jon Robyns (Les Misérables) Julie Atherton (Just For One Day), Simon Lipkin (Oliver!), Clare Foster (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ann Harada (Into the Woods) Sion Lloyd, Giles Terera (Hamilton), Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast), Gloria Onitiri (Hadestown) and Jacqui Sanchez (Miss Saigon).
This production will see the return of many of the original Broadway team, including the award-winning Broadway director Jason Moore, original Broadway puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, music orchestrations and arrangements by Stephen Oremus, and set design by Anna Louizos. Joining them for this anniversary production will be choreographer Ebony Molina, with casting by Pearson Casting CDG and other new UK creatives to be announced.
The show’s producers said today, “We’re beyond excited to bring Avenue Q back to the West End to celebrate its 20th anniversary. When the show first opened on Broadway, it broke all the rules - it was bold, funny, and full of heart, speaking honestly about growing up and finding your place in the world. Two decades later, its message feels more relevant than ever. This revival is a love letter to the original production and to everyone who’s ever seen a bit of themselves in the residents of Avenue Q. We can’t wait to reintroduce this brilliantly irreverent, endlessly uplifting show to London audiences once again.”
Casting for the West End return is to be announced.
Avenue Q will play at the Shaftesbury Theatre from 20 March - 29 August 2026.
