I'm Sorry, Prime Minister in London

Starring:

Griff Rhys Jones, Clive Francis

Are you looking for a good laugh? If so, look no further than this acerbic, clever, and riotously funny political satire. The well-meaning but naïve Prime Minister Jim Hacker and the Machiavellian, scheming Sir Humphrey Appleby return for one last hurrah in Jonathan Lynn's I'm Sorry, Prime Minister.

Why should you see I'm Sorry, Prime Minister?

  • If you're a fan of Yes, Minister and its spin-off series Yes, Prime Minister, you'll love this latest play in the franchise that has become a cultural phenomenon and a staple of British comedy.
  • British comedy and television legends Griff Rhys Jones and Clive Francis take to the stage as the iconic characters of Jim Hacker and Humphrey Appleby, now in their twilight years, grappling with old age and a changing world.
  • Sometimes, there's nothing funnier than British politics. Like the TV series that preceded it, this play pokes fun at the absurdities and chaos of the world of politics, through razor-sharp satirical commentary and witty, unforgettable characters.

What is I'm Sorry, Prime Minister about?

I'm Sorry, Prime Minister is the final chapter of Yes, Minister, a scathing political satire sitcom. It is written and directed by one of the original writers, BAFTA Award-winning Jonathan Lynn. Griff Rhys Jones and Clive Francis (reprising his role) star as ex-Prime Minister Jim Hacker and his former Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby, both now in their eighties - a bit put out and bewildered by the way the world around them has changed.

This transfer follows runs at the Barn Theatre, Theatre Royal Bath, and Cambridge Arts Theatre, making this the first production from Barn Theatre to transfer to the West End, a testament to the show's popularity and its lasting cultural impact.

Comedian Griff Rhys Jones called it 'part of my architecture of British comedy'. So whether you're a fan of the original series or you just appreciate good comedy and the chance to experience a razor-sharp, witty take on British politics, you'll find yourself laughing along with I'm Sorry, Prime Minister at the Apollo Theatre.

Poorly constructed play that has flimsily been given the wrong name.

Not in any way a representation of the original TV series, so if you do decide to go keep this in mind.

Hilarious show

I always enjoyed the tv series and I thought that this was a fitting update on the main characters. The writing was as sharp and funny as the original shows.

Really entertaining.

Excellent production and great acting and comedy. Having enjoyed the original series of Yes Prime Minister on TV made this show even more funny.

Dreadful boring script poorly actrd

I left at the interval along with others who agreed this was boring and unoriginal. Bad script poorly acted. For once the Spectator review wrong for this certainly was not dazzling!

Missed opportunity

The writing was not as sharp as the original TV programme…and storyline weak/out of date. Felt that it was a missed opportunity to make a fitting final chapter to a popular programme. Acting good, theatre lovely.

Great Nostalgia

What could have been a great send off for a fantastic comedy series of the 80s Was for me somewhat disappointing Good First half with lots of laughs But the second half was disappointing to say the least Lacked great comedy and tried I think to make a point that really was lost Unfortunately I would not recommend friends to go and see it

Not one for me

Sadly not as expected. Some amusing lines but overall it did not keep the attention. My companions fell asleep. We left at the interval.

A fitting finale for the Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister series.

To get the most from this show you need to have ideally should have watched the Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister TV series, to understand the relationship. The show takes you into a new world for the two main protagonists and the current world where their old fashioned ways and thoughts bump straight into the current world.
