2026 has arrived, and we’re ready to step into an exhilarating new year of theatre across the city. There’s so much to look forward to over the next twelve months, with January kicking things off in style! There's a dazzling range of new productions to experience in London, including the West End premiere of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and the awe-inspiring Ovo - Cirque du Soleil transforming the vast Royal Albert Hall. We’re diving into just 9 of the shows you need to check out this month.

Looking for something different to watch this January? Let us draw your attention to Akram Khan’s bold reimagining of the classical romantic ballet Giselle, coming to the stunning London Coliseum. In an exciting collaboration with the English National Ballet, experience a breathtaking new perspective on this story by one of the country's most renowned choreographers.
Arcadia, The Old Vic

Sir Tom Stoppard’s classic masterpiece is given a revival by Carrie Cracknell in her Old Vic directorial debut. Arcadia takes place across two timelines: in the past, a teenage prodigy investigates sex and mathematics with her tutor, while in the present, a group of scholars attempts to uncover a historical scandal. Billed as witty, moving and flirtatious, Arcadia will play a limited season from 24 January.
Gerry and Sewell, Aldwych Theatre

From Laurel’s pub in Newcastle to the West End stage, Gerry & Sewell makes its West End debut at the Aldwych Theatre for a strictly limited run. The play by Jamie Eastlake shares an inspiring story of friendship, determination and underdogs overcoming the odds in a joyful celebration of a love for football and the North East. This is definitely one to watch!
Guess How Much I Love You?, Royal Court Theatre

Royal Court Theatre’s 70th anniversary gets underway in 2026 with the run of Luke Norris’s Guess How Much I Love You? Jeremy Herrin directs the heartbreaking and emotional drama, which follows a couple confronting impossible choices and the enduring power of hope and love.

Here There Are Blueberries, Stratford East

Other theatrical delights off West End come with the UK premiere of Here There Are Blueberries. Stratford East will play host to the Pulitzer Prize-nominated play by Tony and Emmy Award nominee Moisés Kaufman and Emmy nominee Amanda Gronich. Based on a true story about a mysterious album of Nazi-era photographs that sparked an investigation and mass debate at the Holocaust Memorial Museum, plays from 31 January.

I’m Sorry, Prime Minister at Apollo Theatre

British comedy and television legends Griff Rhy Jones and Clive Francois star in the political satire I’m Sorry, Prime Minister. Heading to the West End’s Apollo Theatre and created as the final chapter of the British comedy series, I’m Sorry, Prime Minister follows Jim Hacker and Humphrey Appleby as they grapple with old age and a changing world.

Off West End over at the Park Theatre is a brand-new revival of Noel Coward’s The Rat Trap. Revised and reimagined by Bill Rosenfield and presented by Troupe, the play shares the explosive story about two brilliant, arrogant writers who turn their marriage into a battlefield. It runs for a limited time from 28 January.
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Theatre Royal Haymarket

Heading to the West End at the start of the year is the transfer of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. The production, which sold out performances and obtained critical acclaim during its debut at the Chichester Festival Theatre, is adapted from Rachel Joyce’s multi-million selling novel. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry shares a warm, uplifting story about ordinary life, unexpected courage, and the power of human connection.
