Miss Saigon in London

One of the most timeless and unforgettable historical musicals of all time, Miss Saigon has been enchanting audiences for over three decades with its story of star-crossed love in war-torn Vietnam. Now it's your chance to experience the epic storytelling and heartbreaking tragedy of Cameron Mackintosh's mighty production when it returns to London in 2027.

Why you should watch Miss Saigon

  • Miss Saigon transports audiences into a timeless, epic story of star-crossed love and survival during war-time, right in the middle of a fascinating and tragic period in history.
  • Its gorgeous, heartbreaking score features unforgettable songs such as 'The Heat is On in Saigon', 'The Movie in My Mind', 'Last Night of the World', and 'The American Dream'.
  • In a world beset by conflict and wartime atrocities, the musical's harrowing exploration of the horrors of the Vietnam War and its themes of survival and lost innocence feel painfully relevant to modern audiences.

What is Miss Saigon about?

Inspired by Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, Miss Saigon takes place during the last days of the Vietnam War. It's 1975, and a group of American Marines are out for a night on the town in Saigon, and wind up in a sleazy nightclub called 'Dreamland', run by the notorious Engineer. Kim, a teenage prostitute, catches the eye of Chris, one of the marines and the two fall in love. But the lovers are torn apart by the fall of Saigon, and over the next three years, Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea she gave birth to his son.

Since its London premiere in 1989, Cameron Mackintosh's original production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's epic musical has become one of the most enduring and beloved musicals in history. More than a decade since Miss Saigon last performed in London, it returns to the Prince Edward Theatre for a strictly limited run in 2027 after a sell-out UK and Ireland tour. With music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil, this new production is directed by Jean-Pierre van der Spuy (Oliver!, Les Miserables: The Arena Spectacular). Mackintosh said, “It has been immensely gratifying to play to sell-out audiences across the UK and Ireland, and to see new, younger generations react so passionately to this unique piece of musical history.” This powerful, epic war-torn love story has captivated audiences for thirty-seven years, and its harrowing exploration of the horrors of war and the plight of people fighting for survival feels just as poignant and resonant today as it did at the time it first premiered. This new production leans into this by shifting away from the show's original Madame Butterfly inspiration to highlight its contemporary parallels, which is sure to make it a thrilling experience for both lovers of the musical as well as newcomers.

Don't miss your chance - step through time into 1970s Vietnam and get swept away into this epic story of love, war, and survival.

Outstanding show in every way!

Miss Saigon was absolutely outstanding. Captivating from beginning to end. Powerful story sucks you in instantly and leaves you wanting more. The music is varied and upbeat - appealing to all. While applause is directed at the talented performers, let it be known that the lighting and special effects crew are just as deserving of applause as those taking centre stage. Thank you all for putting together such a powerful masterpiece!

We struggled a bit with the sound and understanding the words being sang. There were however some fantastic scenes, but with so much activity going on on the stage, you need to have a good seat with a good view of the whole stage to appreciate it all. However, all that said, it was a very moving story and I was glad I had tissues handy.

Absolutely incredible show, I loved it. It was brilliantly choreographed with so many amazing singers compared to most shows where you normally get one or two. Almost as good as the original!

I have watched Miss Saigon when it first came out in London (Leah Salonga). This time i took my mum (as her bday treat) along with my sister and brother. As i have seen the play before - it was a pretty good comparison. Todays production is in a smaller scale, cast are less and props are also less! However if you u are watching this show for the first time - IT IS WORTH IT! The existing Kim has a powerful voice that stands out in the group when they are singing (I like that very much!). The rest of the cast was also good. But the bar scene is not recommended for families with young children hence not recommended for family viewing!

Amazing - a must see

This musical show from start to finish was amazing. The music (serious and comedy aspects) created a good balance throughout. You really felt at one with the characters. The way the set worked with all aspects of the story was fantastic and the sound effects vibrated throughout the whole theatre, making it feel like you were there experiencing it with the actors. Definitely take your Kleenex, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I wouldn't recommend it for younger children as there are some adult themes that may not be suitable. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was a last minute booking and I am so glad I picked it. Sassy, exciting, authentic, pure brilliance.
