Cameron Mackintosh reveals extension periods for West End productions to 2027

Four of the West End’s most celebrated musicals, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, and Oliver!, have announced that their runs will now continue through to 2027.

The longest-running musical in the world, Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables, will continue its run at the Sondheim Theatre, where it recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. It is now booking through to 13 March 2027.

The current West End cast includes Harry Hepple (Hello Dolly!, London Palladium; Hamilton, Victoria Palace Theatre) as Thénardier, and Lizzie Bea (Sister Act, Dominion Theatre, Hammersmith Apollo and UK Tour) as Madame Thénardier. Jess Folley (Burlesque the Musical, Savoy Theatre) as Éponine, Ian McIntosh as Jean Valjean, Sam Oladeinde as Javert, Lucie Jones as Fantine (until Saturday 11 April as previously announced), Thiago Phillip Felizardo as Marius, Joe Griffiths-Brown as Enjolras, and Izzi Levine as Cosette.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera continues performances at His Majesty's Theatre, where it has played since 1986.

The current West End cast of the production includes Beatrice Penny-Touréas Christine Daaé, Dean Chisnall as The Phantom, Adam Rhys-Charles as Raoul, Joanna Ampil as Carlotta Giudicelli, Martin Ball as Monsieur Firmin, Adam Linstead as Monsieur André, Helen Hobson asMadame Giry, Bradyn Debysingh as Ubaldo Piangi, and Millie Lyon as Meg Giry. At certain performances, the role of Christine Daaé will be played by Colleen Rose Curran.

Performances currently continue to 13 March 2027.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's revolutionary production Hamilton, which has been running at the Victoria Palace Theatre since its first preview performance on 6 December, 2017, also announces an extension to 13 March.

The company currently comprises Alex Sawyer as Alexander Hamilton, Jay Perry as Aaron Burr, Emily-Mae as Angelica Schuyler, Jordan Castle as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Jordan Benjamin as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Daniel Boys as King George III, Bente Mulan (Disney's Frozen, Theatre Royal Drury Lane) as Eliza Hamilton, with Jonathan Andrew Hume (Guys and Dolls, Bridge Theatre) as George Washington, Yeukayi Ushe (Disney's The Lion King, Lyceum Theatre) as Marquis De Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Jasmine Jia Yung Shen (Hamilton, UK & Ireland tour) as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds.

Finally, Lionel Bart's beloved musical Oliver! announces it will be playing at the Gielgud Theatre until 14 March 2027. The production, which returned to London in 2024 after the last production in 2008, is the famous adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel.

The company consists of Simon Lipkin continues as Fagin alongside Ava Brennan (The Lion King) as Nancy, Aaron Sidwell (Wicked) as Bill Sikes, Aaron MacGregor (Les Misérables) as the Artful Dodger, Oscar Conlon-Morrey (Mother Goose) as Mr. Bumble, Katy Secombe (The Music Man) as Widow Corney, Stephen Matthews (Strictly Ballroom) as Mr. Sowerberry/Dr. Grimwig, Jamie Birkett (Peter Pan Goes Wrong) as Mrs. Sowerberry/Mrs. Bedwin and Philip Franks (Witness for the Prosecution) as Mr. Brownlow.
