A brand new satirical play by Chortle award-winning writer Rosie Holt, Churchill's Urinal, will be staged from 13 May to 6 June. With additional material from legendary comedian Stewart Lee, the show will follow a female Chancellor of the Exchequer who is determined to get rid of the urinal in her new office’s ensuite. The news causes outrage in the office as it was first tinkled on by Winston Churchill, the undying icon of Britishness.
More comedy is to ensue with producing giant Avalon set to present a series of work in progress shows from leading comics. Huge Davies and Rob Auton will present an hour each of new material ahead of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer, with more acts to be announced.
The BAFTA Breakthrough comedian behind What Would Beyonce Do?, Am I Right Ladies and Politics for Bitches, Louisa Omielan, has added extra performances to God Is A Woman: The Musical due to demand. The new musical is based on her comedy special of the same name and explores what would have happened if the Bible had been translated by a woman. It will play from 3 April - 1 May.
In June, a new queer musical, May Day, lands at the King's Head Theatre. It dives into the supercharged waters of the Hampstead Ponds for a wet and wild love story of mythic proportions, featuring songs by Sam Woof. The musical was originally developed from interviews with queer and trans communities.
Some exciting new plays will also take to the stage this year. The Sequel is a dark, funny and unsettling comedy-drama that follows a renowned author who returns to her hometown for the first time in nine years, only to discover it now has a gift shop and a museum dedicated to her and her novel.
Rowling In It is a sizzling true story from Laura K Bailey exploring her experience of playing JK Rowling in *that* very controversial Edinburgh Fringe show. Dominic Shaw (The Devil Wears Prada The Musical) will direct the play that explores fame and notoriety in a different light from 6-18 April.
Finally, there's a one-night-only showing of Loose Threads on 20 March. Centering around a cloakroom attendant at a nightclub and the chaotic lives of those around him, Malachy O'Callaghan's play makes its London premiere following a successful Fringe run.
