The Urmetazoan in London
Last chance to see! The Urmetazoan closes at the Hampstead Theatre on Saturday, 24 October 2026. Only a few weeks remain – book now before the final curtain falls.
Sisters Alice and Abigail couldn't be any more different: Alice got their mother's looks; Abigail got her sense of humour. Alice has a Nobel Prize for Medicine; Abigail likes to get stoned on the sofa. Abigail is a homebody; Alice is preparing to leave the earth forever on a one-way mission to deep space. Now, finally, the sisters rediscover the joy of being in each other's orbit, but the countdown has already started to a goodbye neither of them ever expected to be so hard.
A story of sisterhood set in the not-too-distant-future, The Urmetazoan is the latest work by award-winning writer Alex Rugman (How to Save a Rock, Move Fast and Break Things, An Investigation), directed by Anna Ledwich (Bird Grove, The Billionaire Inside Your Head, Dry Powder, Four Minutes Twelve Seconds). It stars Dorothea Myer-Bennett (Glengarry Glen Ross) as Alice and Meghan Treadway (Witness for the Prosecution) as Abigail. A powerful exploration of the bonds that define us and the grief of separation, this new original play is smart, funny, and deeply relatable, putting love, family, deep space and sisterhood under the microscope.
Can sisterly bonds survive across space and time? Find out in this heartfelt, moving play.
