Lyric Hammersmith has announced an astounding new season of work for 2025.
Gary Owen and Rachel O'Riordan will reunite following their critically acclaimed production of Iphigenia in Splott with a reimagining of Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts. The classic story will be reimagined for the modern day, following in the footsteps of similarly re-lensed classics in the Lyric's recent history, including A Doll's House and Accidental of an Anarchist. Ghosts will play at the Lyric Hammersmith from 10 April - 10 May 2025.
From 22 May, Sathnam Sanghera’s critically acclaimed novel Marriage Material will be adapted for the stage for the first time by Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti (A Kind of People) and directed by Iqbal Khan (East is East). Marriage Material is a multi-generational drama that follows one Sikh family and their corner shop in Wolverhampton from the 1960s to the present day. The play will uncover inequality, duty and ambition themes from 22 May to -21 June 2025.
Then in July the UK premiere of Sing Street will hit the Lyric Hammersmith stage. A new musical based on the 2016 movie of the same name by John Carney (Once) features a book by Tony Award winner Enda Walsh (Lazarus, Once) and music and lyrics by Gary Clark (frontman of Danny Wilson). Sing Street is a joyous, heartfelt coming-of-age story set in 1980s Dublin and will run from 06 July - 23 August 2025.
Completing the new season is a major new version of Bram Stoker's Dracula, written by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia) and directed by Emma Baggott (A Taste of Honey). This reimagined version of the classic horror novel will centre the female voices at the heart of the story. Dracula will play from 11 September - 11 October 2025.
