Tao Of Glass in London

Coming to Soho Place Theatre from 25th July, Tao of Glass is a powerful collaboration between composer Philip Glass and performer-director Phelim McDermott (Improbable) that explores life, loss, and the question of where true inspiration comes from. The West End premiere of this critically acclaimed show features ten meditations on life, death, and Taoist wisdom, set to ten brand new pieces of music from Glass. It's presented by McDermott, alongside an ensemble of musicians and puppeteers bringing this beautiful story to life.

Defying generic convention, this show is part concert and part performance, combining Glass's mesmerising, spellbinding musical score with McDermott's signature theatrical storytelling style. Praised as “An exploration of the mystery of artistic creation that's marvellously entertaining and deeply touching” (The Times) and “A reverie in real time… astonishingly original” (The Observer), this one-of-a-kind show will appeal to all those fascinated by Taoism as well as those unfamiliar with its doctrine.

Don't miss this unique theatrical experience that blends music, puppetry, and storytelling in a mesmerising exploration of life, loss, and inspiration.

Underwhelmed

I felt the one actor was underpowered. He could. not always be heard but the general plot was messy and not really interesting. I am a fan of the work of Philip Glass but this did him no favours. I didn't think the business with the paper made it more interesting viewing, just something to distract from there not being anything else to look at. Glass's staged operas are completely absorbing but this was not.
