A Chorus of Disapproval in London
Starring:
Rob Brydon, Nigel Harman, Ashley Jensen
A Chorus of Disapproval awaits your approval!
It’s amateur dramatics time, a well-loved British pastime that’s rich in comedic potential, brought into play by the marvellously acerbic Alan Ayckbourn and hitting the stage for the first time in 1984. Fraught with misunderstandings and backstage drama, A Chorus of Disapproval was made into a hit film in 1988, directed by Michael Winner. Now the stage show is back in the picture, in the West End, and excitement is mounting, with a stellar cast to for audiences to enjoy.
A Chorus of Disapproval – The story
The play’s plot revolves around an amateur stage production of the Beggar’s Opera, put on by the troubled Pendon Amateur Light Operatic Society. Things are not going too well when a new cast member, the shy Guy Jones, arrives and things suddenly start to get lively. Jones attracts the attention of the director Dafydd ap Llewellyn and his wife, amongst others, and the backstage drama soon manages to overshadow the bright lights on-stage.
Classic songs fill the air, moving the drama along and bringing romantic rivalry and small town social politics to the fore. Crispin is sleeping with Bridget. Guy and Hannah hit it off. Fay confronts Hannah. Tensions between Linda and Bridget spill over into a cat fight over Crispin. And the convoluted tale continues to unravel as things become more and more ridiculous. If you’ve never seen two grown women fighting over a pair of men’s underpants, now’s your chance… expect to cry with laughter and you won’t be disappointed!
A laugh a minute
Last seen live at London’s National Theatre more than 25 years ago it’s set to become one of the smash hits of the year, perfect for grown up West End theatre fans who enjoy a genuine belly laugh.

What a dreadful showThis is the worst show I have ever seen. The acting was poor, the story is inadequate and I would not recommend this show to anyone. Brydon was an embarrassment as an actor.

SATURDAY NIGHT IN LONDON.Saw this in the second week of the show ; acting was good but felt it was a bit flat. No spark - it was after a matinee - the cast seemed tired.

A Too long ChorusPlay is too long, labours the point and is not one of Alan Ayckbourn's best. Rob Brydon is very good but I expected it to be funnier.

A chorus of disapproval - aptly namedThe production is far too long especially the first half which went for 90 minutes. Bit disjointed in places. Rob Brydon saved the day otherwise it would have bee a wasted night. Thankfully we had seats in the nosebleed section so can't complain too much for £11 tickets.
